Every Friday I will showcase one (or more) organizational products, products that I use in my own home or have purchased for clients. Visit back each Friday for Friday’s Pick.
With Christmas just around the corner I wanted to give you a product that you can add to YOUR Christmas list. You may not even think of it as an organizational product, but it is because it saves so much space, time and money!
I am a reader, and as such, I love to buy books. I grew up with a mother who also loved to read. In every home we lived in, she had to have my Dad build bookshelves for her books. Remember the ‘Doubleday book of the month club’? … she was a member (I think they still have those, don’t they?) Books were always coming into our home, but never leaving. When she died, I had the daunting task of cleaning out her home and it is the books that I remember most. Some were dear friends to me, some I had ready many times over, as had she. I might have held on to a few, but most were donated and hauled away.
As a wife and mother, I have found the need to simplify my life and space. In doing so, I found that I too had a very large collection of books, books that I had read (or not, in some cases), but I knew I would most likely not reread. I started clearing out my books by giving them away to fellow readers, but I was still buying books. They were not coming in quite as fast as they were going out, but they were still taking up space.
This week’s product pick was MY answer for the space my books were taking. It may not be for everyone because there are some people that just HAVE to hold a book in their hand, and that’s fine. And know this about me….I still have bookshelves with books, but they are the ones that I will want to reference, save for my daughter or I know I will reread year after year.
Last year, on MY Christmas list was Amazon’s Kindle. I LOVED my Kindle from Day One! I love that it can store hundreds of books without taking up space in my home. I love that when I travel (or even just wait in the car pool line at school) I have any number of book choices to read right there in my hand. I love that if a friend recommends a book to me, I can download it and have it on my Kindle within a minute. I love that if I finish reading a great book, I can immediately get the sequel without missing a beat (think Twilight). I love that I do not need to hook it up to my computer to browse books, to download a chapter to try out, or to buy a book. I love that when my favorite authors come out with new books, the most I am going to pay is $9.99, when before new hardbacks were much, much more.
I know the Kindle is pricey, which is why I am recommending it for your Christmas list, but it WILL pay for itself in the long run…. in dollars and space savings! Check it out at Amazon.com with the link below…they have a great video demo that shows you everything about it.
